Not related at all! Coconut oil is really good for you (don’t be scared away by the saturated fat - coconut oil will actually help you maintain a healthy weight and burn excess fat).
Palm oil in CLIF bars is bad for many reasons. First, it is not sustainably obtained, and CLIF is a company that claims to care immensely about communities and the environment and the planet at large - to get palm oil, the rainforest has to be destroyed. In fact, it’s the number one cause of deforestation of the natural rainforests.
Because of this, orangutans are endangered and quickly going extinct if we do not fix this problem.
Unfortunately, palm oil in products is almost as prevalent as soy and soy lecithin. While all of this clearly must be addressed, and it is being addressed through spreading awareness of this problem, I’m starting with CLIF because I believe in the company’s good intentions and I appreciate that they provide protein bars in wide varieties for vegans. I believe that with enough signatures and support from their consumers, they will take palm oil out of their recipes altogether.
Also, palm oil is no good for you at all. It does weird fucking things to your blood sugar as far as I know.
Regardless, that’s why I’m hosting this giveaway for my petition! Make sure to sign and spread it around!

Everyone - this is MY petition, and it would mean the world to me if you’d read through it and consider contributing your signature. CLIF bar is great company with good intentions that I actively promote and buy from, but palm oil is an evil industry: the #1 cause of deforestation of the rainforests and the reason orangutans are going extinct.
Please, read and share - I am hoping for 5,000 signatures and hopefully we can get them to change their recipes. :)
About the palm oil addition - I wanted to buy Earth Balance which ALSO contains palm oil! There were also other vegan products that contain palm oil which upsets me, because obviously many vegans care. COMPANIES: STOP. There are so many alternatives, which is why it is mind boggling why they continue to use palm oil!
Everyone, please keep sending this around!
I’m really not sure all vegans do, although I think they should. Palm oil is the #1 cause of deforestation of the rain forests, and it is the reason orangutans (and proboscis monkeys) are endangered. Palm oil is a serious problem, and one that is totally unnecessary.
Here’s the Rainforest Action Network’s website, with everything you need to know about Palm Oil and how bad it is environmentally.
I strongly suggest everyone, vegan or otherwise, boycott this oil that legitimately none of us need.
